I love the look of woven fabrics–especially cotton florals or striped linen ticking. There’s something special and uniquely vintage about the look. It’s where I got my inspiration to create this locker hooked design and kit for the Vintage Stripes tote. It turned out to be fairly easy to locker hook and assemble. It’s a small sized tote that is also perfect for a crossbody bag. Whether vintage or not, striped designs are never outdated.
You can buy the Color Crazy Vintage Striped Tote kit, or download the free pattern and customize it. The kit includes everything you need and you can purchase it with, or without the Locker Hooking Toolset. The floral raffia accent is optional.
What’s Included…
The Vintage Striped Tote kit is for locker hooking on 3.75 mesh canvas and includes Color Crazy’s 3/4″w Pre-cut Cotton Muslin and Vintage Weave fabric strips, or the 3/4″ Hand-Dyed Turquoise, the canvas, yarn for padding, locking medium and rattan handles. You can also use your own cut fabric strips to customize a look. Using the wider 3.75 mesh makes finishing the tote go quickly. I also added a floral accent out of raffia yarn and hemp cord as an option. Rattan handles are included with the kit, but you can add a cross-body strap or other handles. Pattern, detailed instructions and tips included.
You’ll be working in the round to create the body that you’ll later assemble by stitching to the locker hooked bottom piece with the tapestry needle. I added a padded top edge to the design that finishes it nicely. You can leave it without an accent or customize the base design with your own idea for accents. These were so fun to make, I’m going to try a similar design for a larger tote.
